NIS Patiala cook held for raping minor

PATIALA: A 45-year-old cook, working with the National Institute of Sports (NIS) here, was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.
Police said accused Ram Verma raped the victim, a relative, in his official quarter outside the NIS campus on Thursday night.
A few days ago, the girl’s family had gone to their village leaving the victim under Verma’s care.Cops said the accused reached home drunk on Thursday night and raped the victim. On Friday morning, the girl approached the neighbours, who took her to senior NIS officials.
NIS deputy director V K Chauhan lodged a complaint with police, who arrested Verma. A rape case was registered against Verma after the victim’s medical examination.
