Nikhil Gowda's pal has criminal record
Who is Syed Ehthesham? He is a resident of T C Royan Circle area in Chamarajpet.
BANGALORE: Who is Syed Ehthesham? He is a resident of T C Royan Circle area in Chamarajpet. He is the friend who reportedly dragged Karnataka CM's son Nikhil Gowda from home on Thursday and visited Hotel Empire International.
What are his antecedents? Syed was arrested by the Cubbon Park police in 2002 from Lavelle Road on charges of robbery and eveteasing.
A case has been registered against him — crime number 73/02.
Police records show that he used to stop bikers on the road and snatch mobile phones, cash and gold chains. He has since been acquitted.
At times, he allegedly diverted the attention of women, then snatched chains from them. He was arrested and sent to jail. After his arrest, Syed's father visited the police station claiming that his son was innocent. But returned home after Syed's criminal records were shown to him.
But a family source of the chief minister said, "A political rival of Gowda family is behind Syed; he has lured Syed with the bike. In return, Syed took Nikhil from home on that night and created ruckus at the hotel. Nikhil has nothing to do with the attack. Syed then leaked the news to the political rival who in turn made it a national news to defame Gowda family."
Nikhil or his family members were unaware of Syed's criminal past. Somebody from the police department briefed them about Syed's past after the attack on Hotel Empire. Family sources said Nikhil passed out with distinction in SSLC from Vijaya School two-and-half years ago. In PUC, he dropped out as he was short of attendance.
There was another youth identified as Manjunath who accompanied Nikhil and Syed when the hotel attack took place. He has no criminal past.
