PANIPAT: The government railway police (GRP) has registered a case against 40 people for allegedly harassing a group of women on board the Jind-Panipat-Rohtak (JPR) passenger train. The incident happened on Friday night when the women, working with an NGO, were on their way to Rohtak from Kurukshetra to participate in a rally being organised by a woman’s organization.
They alleged that a group of men boarded the train at Panipat railway station and started misbehaving with the group. In their complaint, they have also alleged that the same men harassed them when they were returning to Kurukshetra.
The women lodged the complaint with the railway police in Panipat on Friday night and a case was registered on Saturday. They also submitted some photos captured on the mobile phone with the railway police and sought action against the accused. However, the railway police has not made any arrests in the case.
GRP, Panipat, SHO Satbir Kundu said a case against the unidentified men has been registered under Section 294 (obscene acts) of IPC. “We are checking the pictures clicked by the women and it might help us identify the accused,” he added.
