Former Union minister Madhavrao Scindia's father Jivajirao Scindia succeeded as Maharaja of Gwalior on June 5, 1925, after the death of his father Madhavrao II Scindia. Jivajirao was married to Lekha Divyashwari Devi (later known as Vijayaraje Scindia) on February 21, 1941, who belonged to the Rana family of Nepal.
