NCRB report for 2023 not out yet, coming soon, says Centre
NEW DELHI: On the delay in the annual publication of accident, suicide and crime data by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for 2023, Union home ministry informed Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that "data validation for the 2023 report is in the final stage".
In a written reply to a question from TMC's Sagarika Ghosh, minister of state (MoS) for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar said NCRB has been continuously publishing 'Crime in India' (CII), 'Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India' (ADSI) and 'Prison Statistics India' (PSI). "The publications collate data of a calendar year, hence, the process of collection of data is initiated only after the completion of the respective year," he said.
The MoS added that data for the reports is collected from 89 data supplying centres, which includes 36 states and UTs, and 53 metropolitan cities. "The 2022 report has been published and data validation for the 2023 report is in final stage... Data submitted by states/UTs is extensively verified/validated at various levels/stages through the inbuilt checks in the software application. In case of discrepancy/inconsistency in data, the same is referred back to the respective state/UTs for revalidation," Kumar added.
Usually, NCRB reports on crime, accidents and suicides are published latest by Oct. This time, however, there has been an inordinate delay.
Even the road transport ministry has not published the 'Accidents in India' report of 2023. Sources said the ministry is reconciling the data provided by police with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).
