AMRITSAR: BJP MP from Amritsar Navjot Singh Sidhu has expressed regret that Union civil aviation minister Ajit Singh has refused to consider his requests of re-starting Amritsar - Toronto via Birmingham flight and that of linking upcoming New Delhi - Sydney flight with Amritsar.Sidhu in a press statement issued here on Wednesday said that by refusing to club holy city of Amritsar in these important flights circuit Ajit Singh had, in fact, lowered the prestige of the country, as the city of Golden Temple was the number one tourist destination."In July 2012, I had written a special three-page memo to the civil aviation minister requesting to re-start Amritsar - Toronto via Birmingham flight and linking upcoming New Delhi - Sydney flight with Amritsar, but, Ajit Singh has turned down both my requests," said Sidhu. He said with the reason explained in his reply Ajit Singh seems to be defending the traffic and cargo of New Delhi Airport at the expenses of Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport, Rajasnasi (Amritsar), which , he said was gross injustice to not only with the people of holy city but, the whole of Punjab. Sidhu also challenged Ajit Singh for a media debate as how his action of denying these flights' access to Amritsar was justified.
