BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu's wife Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu peddled her way to the office of the returning officer (RO) on Tuesday to file her nomination papers for the ensuing assembly elections.

AMRITSAR: BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu's wife Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu peddled her way to the office of the returning officer (RO) on Tuesday to file her nomination papers for the ensuing assembly elections. She skipped meeting her supporters and residents of Amritsar East constituency at Aman Palace, Verka - who had gathered there to greet her - as planned because Navjot Kaur had to file her papers precisely at 11.12 am on the advise of a pundit.Her MP husband Navjot Singh Sidhu, Amritsar Improvement Trust chairman Sanjiv Khanna besides city mayor, Shwet Mullik cycled with her to the RO's office. Besides, BJP national general secretary Capt Abhimanyu was also present when she filed her nomination papers.Besides the Sidhus, there are several other candidates who are filing their papers in accordance with the "shubh muhurat" (auspicious time). BJP candidate from Amritsar North constituency Anil Joshi who lives in house number 11 and travels in vehicles with registration number, 11, has chosen to file his nomination papers on January 11 at 11.11 am. Similarly Congress candidate from Amritsar West constituency Rajkumar Verka has also decided to file his nomination papers at 11am on January 11.
Navjot Kaur, who is a gynaecologist and is also president of the district cycling association said that she wanted to symbolically present the 'true picture' of the common man who was reeling under the burden of inflation. "The way inflation is rising, everyone will have to move around on bicycles one day," she said. She is also banking on her MP husband to guide her and to take up issues of her constituency in parliament.
