NEW DELHI: The decks have been finally cleared for the announcement of the much-delayed 53rd National Film Awards (NFA) after the Supreme Court order made it mandatory for documentary filmmakers to get censor board clearance to be eligible for sending their entries for the awards. Information and broadcasting minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said on Monday, "We can now announce the National Film Awards by next week." The prestigious awards had been stuck for the past four months after documentary filmmakers, including Anand Patwardhan, Gautam Jani and Simantini Dh-uru, filed a petition in the Bombay High Court asking for exemption for their films from obtaining censor board certification.
