Nation salutes ‘valiant martyrs’ of Parliament attack
NEW DELHI: On the 21st anniversary of Parliament attack on Tuesday, President Droupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi and other leaders said the country will always remain grateful to the “valiant martyrs” who laid down their lives while foiling the attack on the seat of Indian democracy. Nine people, including six security personnel, were killed in the attack. All five terrorists were shot dead.
“The nation pays homage to the valiant martyrs who laid down their lives while defending the Parliament against terrorist attack on this day in 2001. We will always remain grateful to the bravehearts for their courage and supreme sacrifice,” Murmu tweeted.
Besides PM Modi, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid floral tributes to the martyrs at the Parliament complex. The family members of the martyrs were also present on the occasion. “Paid homage to those who were martyred during the 2001 Parliament attack. We will never forget their service, bravery and sacrifice,” Modi tweeted.
Earlier, both Houses paid homage to martyrs and members observed a two-minute silence.
Congress member Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to pay tribute. “The country is indebted to their sacrifice that inspires us to devote everything in the service of the country,” he said.
