Nambi Narayanan hopes for justice after Supreme Court reserves verdict in ISRO spy case
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After the Supreme Court reserved its judgment on the
The court reserved its judgment after discussion over increased compensation relief and justice to the affected space scientist Narayanan in the case and on the need for further probe to ascertain who was behind the conspiracy and why. The apex court hearing was on the petition for criminal action against the police officials of the state for allegedly fabricating the ISRO spy case in 1994.
"The matter is sub-judice, there was discussion in the Supreme Court over compensation relief and on the need for further probe. All that, I can say is that the Supreme Court has granted special leave for the Special Leave Petition (SLP), with the time for one week to submit a written report and the judgement is reserved till then," Nambi Narayanan told TOI on Tuesday.
More than two decades after the fabricated ISRO espionage case that had falsely implicated six members including space scientist Nambi Narayanan, he had approached the Supreme Court for justice. Narayanan had filed a petition in the apex court to initiate criminal action against three former top police officers including Kerala ADGP Siby Mathews, KK Joshua and S Vijayan, for allegedly fabricating the case against him.
Initially, the high court single bench verdict had called for action against the officials after the CBI investigation proved the accusation against Narayanan in the ISRO spy case in 1994 as false and was exonerated by the Supreme Court in 1998. But, the high Court division bench verdict had ruled out disciplinary action against the police officials involved and Narayanan had approached the Supreme Court in June 2015.
