CHENNAI: Working as a warehouse supervisor in Saudi Arabia, O Mansoor Ahmed from Vellore had been missing the post-namaz discourse of imams in Tamil for the last seven Ramzans. This holy month, however, he diligently listens to two imams every evening. No, Ahmed has not flown down — he just logs on to watch the live webcast from two mosques in Chennai.
Encouraging the imams to go hi-tech was the huge demand for such discourses among the Tamil Muslim diaspora in the Gulf, Sri Lanka and Europe.
"Listening to the Tamil discourse during
Ramzan has boosted my spiritual life. When the imam goes live, I log in," says Ahmed. Sensing a big demand for their webcasts, the imams have also started webcasting their Friday sermons.
