Chandan Kumar Singh, 29, can be found most days on Juhu Beach practising mime to support his love for music
On most evenings you’ll find Chandan Kumar Singh sitting on a wooden bench under a tree by the side of the Chhatrapati Shivaji statue on Juhu Beach undergoing a transformation. This is the ritual he follows: He painstakingly applies silver colour to his face and neck using a red handheld mirror. On top of the paint, he applies shining powder so that he glistens. Then he puts on a pair of pants, a shirt, a waistcoat, tie, gloves, shoes and hat – all of them a bright, shiny silver. A pair of sunglasses and a red rose complete the ensemble.
Meet the Silver Man.
Relatively short and skinny, but with broad shoulders, Singh has an earnest face, topped with thick wavy black hair. He created Silver Man in 2018 after watching videos on YouTube and TikTok of people dressing up and posing as statues. “I saw people in other countries were doing this. I also saw some videos of Mumbai’s Gold Man and I thought this is something I can do,” he says.
