MUMBAI: A metropolitan magistrate in Kurla has issued fresh summons in connection with a case of alleged hate speech to All India Majlis-e-Ittihad ul-Muslimeen (
MIM) leader and Andhra Pradesh MLA
Akbaruddin Owaisi.
Mahesh Patil DCP (Zone V) said that the order of summons was issued on Friday in a complaint filed by Ghulam Khan. Patil told TOI that the summons have been executed.
Khan in his complaint, filed in 2013 alleged that Owaisi had allegedly made a speech intended to undermine the Hindu-Muslim harmony in 2012 in Andhra Pradesh.
According to newspaper reports cited by the complainant, the MIM leader was going to be in the city on Saturday. The court then issued a fresh summons. Magistrate in his order said, "“Senior police station officer Kurla is directed to serve the summons to the accused and file compliance.”
Khan's complaint said the alleged hate speech was hurtful to religious sentiments.
