mumbai: a 1993 serial blast accused on thursday refuted police allegations that he had collected weapons from the residence of film actor sanjay dutt and delivered them to co-accused zebusina kazi prior to the explosions. making forceful submissions before the special court of designated judge p d kode, defence lawyers majeed memon and subhash kanse tried to pick holes in the prosecution's case and harped on them in support of their argument that mansoor ahmed sayeed had not visited dutt's residence in early 1993.
1x1 polls
the prosecution's case is that some blast-accused, including film producers samir hingora and hanif kadawala, had gone to dutt's pali hill bungalow with arms and ammunition brought from pakistan to carry out the blasts. dutt kept three ak-56 rifles and ammunition with him and returned the rest. two days later, he returned two ak-56 rifles with ammunition and retained one ak-56 rifle. cbi has alleged that mansoor ahmed and underworld figure abu salem had allegedly collected two ak-56 rifles and other ammunition and delivered them to co-accused zebunisa kazi. defence lawyers referred to deposition of the watchman posted at zebunisa kazi's residential building. he had told the court that no person had visited zebunisa's house to deliver weapons and denied that mansoor had gone there. they said even co-accused sanjay dutt had not disclosed in his confession mansoor's visit to his house. the only evidence before the court was confession of hanif kadawala who was shot dead last year by gangsters.
