Security beefed up as Mukhtar Ansari's mortal remains being taken to Ghazipur

Mukhtar Ansari's body after post mortem was escorted by heavy police security to his home district Ghazipur with a convoy of 26 vehicles.

Security measures were heightened in Ghazipur and the neighboring Mau district. Prohibitory orders under CrPC Sec 144 were imposed across UP following Ansari's death.

Gangster Mukhtar Ansari aged 63 passed away while receiving treatment at Banda medical college on Thursday night. A senior police official revealed that the post-mortem report cited myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, as the cause of Ansari's death.

Ansari, a former five-time MLA from Mau Sadar seat, had been behind bars in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab since 2005. Ansari was taken to the emergency department of Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda in an unconscious state by jail staff.

Mukhtar Ansari's family alleged that he was poisoned by administration. Last week, Ansari's lawyer Randheer Singh Suman had filed an application in a court in Barabanki requesting a thorough medical examination, alleging that “slow poisoning” was being administered to him by the prison staff.

Ansari had been convicted in eight cases within a span of just 18 months, two of which resulted in life sentences. Following the Supreme Court's directive, he had been transferred to Banda jail in April 2021 from Ropar jail in Punjab.

Mukhtar Ansari's family will perform Janaze ki namaj on Saturday at 10 am. His burial will take place at Kalibag graveyard in Yusufpur Mohammadabad of Ghazipur district, said Mukhtar's elder brother Shibgatullah Ansari.

A judicial inquiry has been ordered into the death of Mukhtar Ansari. The order for the inquiry was issued by CJM Bhagwan Das Gupta. ACJM (MP/MLA Court) Garima Singh, has been appointed as the investigating officer to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and submit the report within one month.
