JAIPUR: Member of Parliament from Ajmer and former Union minister
Sanwar Lal Jat
died at the
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Wednesday morning. The 62-year-old Jat leader from the state had suffered a major cardiac arrest on July 24 and was airlifted to AIIMS on July 27.
Jat’s untimely demise sent shock waves in the political corridors of the state, with both – BJP and Congress – immediately cancelling all its meetings and programmes for the day. The state government too announced a day-long mourning while members of the
Vasundhara Raje cabinet met to condole Jat’s demise. Condolences poured in for the senior state leader, who was also the chairman of the state farmers’ commission. PM Narendra Modi took to twitter to share his condolence message. 'Anguished by the demise of MP & former Union Minister, Shri Sanwar Lal Jat. This is a big loss for the BJP & the nation. My condolences.

In her condolence message, chief minister Raje remembered Jat as a cautious public representative and a well know farmers’ leader. "As a political, he dedicated his life for the welfare of farmers, cattle herders, poor and the backward classes. His death is an irreparable loss," she said.
