PORT BLAIR: A moderate intensity earthquake hit the Great Nicobar region in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago early on Monday, Meteorological department said.
The quake of 5.6 magnitude on the Richter Scale had its epicentre off the south coast of Great Nicobar island, it said.
The tremors were felt at 0343 IST.
Tremors have become a common feature in the region, which was devastated by tsunami waves triggered by a massive undersea earthquake off Sumatra island on December 26.
