BHOPAL: Peeved that notice was served to former chief minister Motilal Vora and his government bungalow has been vacated, the Congress party on Thursday challenged the Madhya Pradesh BJP government to evacuate Union minister Uma Bharti from her government accommodation in the city. Uma Bharti was chief minister of the BJP government from December 2003 to August 2004 and has a government bungalow allotted to her on Shyamla Hills.

“The house allotted to former chief minister Motilal Vora much before the Supreme Court’s recent judgement has been vacated by him,” state Congress president Arun Yadav said. “Now it is to be seen how the BJP state government implements the Supreme Court orders on other former chief minister especially Union minister for water resources Uma Bharti, whose area of operation has been shifted by her party to Uttar Pradesh.”

If the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government is following Supreme Court’s direction of August 2 on chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh, then the government will have to take the same kind of action against Uma Bharti and two veteran patriarchs of the BJP, former chief ministers Sundarlal Patwa and Kailash Joshi. Both Patwa and Kailash Joshi have their allotted accommodation in the same 74 Bungalows area. Joshi happens to be the next door neighbour of

Motilal Vohra

.

Former chief minister Digvijaya Singh, who has been allotted the 1, Shyamla Hills bungalow is neighbour to Uma Bharti. But the AICC general secretary might get to retain the house since he is Rajya Sabha MP from the state.

When former chief ministers cannot have bungalows, then the question would arise if leaders no longer in power can have government accommodation. This would mean that senior Congress leaders like Suresh Pachauri and Kamal Nath could also be served notice to evacuate.
