NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to Saudi PM and Crown Prince Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Bahrain King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa and thanked the two leaders for their attention to the Indian community amid unstable situation in West Asia.
He also condemned the attacks on Saudi Arabia and said that it constituted a "violation of its sovereignty and the integrity of its territory." This comes amid escalating military situation in Iran and the Gulf following a joint US-Israeli strike on Iran on February 28, known as Operation Roaring Lion, that resulted in the death of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
"I discussed developments in the situation in West Asia with His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. India condemns the recent attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which constitute a violation of its sovereignty and the integrity of its territory. We agreed that restoring regional peace and stability at the earliest possible time is of utmost importance. I thanked him for his attention to the welfare of the Indian community in these difficult circumstances," he said in a post on X.
"I held a fruitful telephone conversation with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain. India condemns the attacks on the Kingdom of Bahrain and expresses its solidarity with its people in these difficult circumstances. And I thank him for his continued support for the Indian community in the Kingdom of Bahrain," he said in another post on X.
Earlier in the day, he discussed the West Asia situation with Canadian counterpart Mark Carney.
"Situation in West Asia is a matter of grave concern for us," PM Modi said. "We will keep working with countries in West Asia to ensure safety of Indians there," he added.
"India supports resolution of all conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy," PM Modi said while referring to situation in West Asia.
