Members of National MSc Medical Teachers Association meet Union health minister Nadda

NEW DELHI: A delegation of National MSc Medical Teachers Association (NMMTA) met Union health minister J P Nadda on Wednesday to raise their concerns over the adverse impact of National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations for MSc and PhD medical instructors. The NMMTA representatives claimed that these regulations have led to significant staffing shortage in medical colleges, affecting the quality of education and training provided to future healthcare professionals.
Dr Arjun Maitra and Dr Ayan Das, president and secretary of NMMTA, elaborated on the discrimination experienced by medical educators due to the current NMC policies. They claimed many association members have been forced to resort to costly, time-consuming legal interventions to navigate the challenges posed by these regulations.
Nadda acknowledged their concerns and urged joint secretary of medical education to compile a comprehensive report detailing the challenges faced by the medical institutions.
Urging the NMC to reconsider the regulations, Dr Maitra said, "The continued reliance on legal measures undermines our primary goal of nurturing future healthcare professionals. We believe that with the ministry's support, we can create a more equitable framework that values the contributions of all educators."
The NMMTA delegation presented Nadda with a copy of their inaugural newsletter, which outlines the association's commitment to excellence in medical education and showcases various initiatives undertaken by its members.
They announced that NMMTA will host the 5th Conference for Clinical Scientists on Research in Basic Medical Sciences in Dehradun on September 28. "The conference theme - Artificial Intelligence & Recent Advancements in the Healthcare System - reflects the association's dedication in integrating modern technology and innovative practices into medical education, the office bearers said.
