guwahati: the e k mawlong government in meghalaya was voted out of power on friday in a voice vote after the cong(i) legislator r g lyngdoh moved the no confidence motion on being directed by the speaker e d marak to do so amid protests from the treasury benches. read this story in... in an unprecedented scene in the meghalaya assembly, the speaker had to call the marshals to discipline the ruling party mlas who rushed to the well of the house as the no confidence motion was being moved by cong(i) legislator.

when contacted, one of the officials of the meghalaya assembly reacted by saying, "this has never happened in meghalaya house and i think it is a matter of shame for us." while the members of the treasury benches were inside the well of the house, the speaker put the motion to vote and the opposition shouted against the government; thus the speaker declared that the government has been voted out of power. later the chief minister e k mawlong, along with his supporters, met the governor and complaint against the procedures adopted by the speaker in the house while putting the motion to vote. but till the filing of this report the chief minister had not submitted his resignation. it is learnt from reliable sources that the ruling party has also asked action against f a khonglam, the leader of the newly formed people's forum of meghalaya, under 10th schedule of the indian constitution for switching parties after having been elected as an independent mla. later khonglam, along with the pfm members, met arvind dave, who is holding the additional charge of governor of meghalaya, and staked their claim for forming the new government in the state. according to the raj bhawan sources, the governor was still waiting for the proceedings of the house and a report from the speaker before taking any decision on the formation of new government.
