Manipur elections: Shah effect? Kuki militants say vote BJP

Kuki

National Organisation (KNO), an umbrella body of Kuki militant groups, has announced its support to all BJP candidates and has asked people to vote for the saffron party, reports

This development comes soon after Union home minister Amit Shah’s promise in his campaign rallies in Kuki-majority constituencies on Wednesday that he would settle the Kuki insurgency issue. The insurgency centres around a demand for a separate state carved out of Manipur.

While Congress and

NPP

want the Election Commission to stop this “violation of the model code of conduct”, BJP said the KNO’s expression of support could be because of its faith in BJP’s “good governance” and the belief that only BJP can solve its problems.
