NEW DELHI: It was a luxurious stay for a man at a five-star hotel free of cost for one-and-half months but followed by contrasting conditions in jail.
A city court sentenced Sarvanan Palaniappan to three years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty of cheating Taj Palace hotel here by handing over a cheque of Rs 8.25 lakh that bounced at the end of his 45-day stay.
The accused had feigned as an Executive of a UK-based company on a business tour from Chennai last year. After enjoying the luxurious stay, he handed over a cheque of Rs 8.25 lakh to the hotel cashier which bounced on production in the bank thrice.
After his arrest on a complaint by the hotel, he was booked under section 420 of IPC which pertains to cheating.
He pleaded guilty before Metropolitan Magistrate Sidharth Sharma at the Patiala courts, who sentenced him to three years imprisonment.
