PANCHKULA: Madhu Sharma, wife of Haryana cadre IPS officer Ravi Kant Sharma, prime suspect in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, demanded on Tuesday that Union Communications Minister Pramod Mahajan be subjected to a lie detector test.
Addressing a press conference here this afternoon, Madhu Sharma said she was also ready to undertake the lie detector test.
She alleged that Mahajan was not speaking the truth on his "relationship" with Shivani. She also said his statements that he did not know Ravi Kant Sharma, and that he did not have lengthy conversations with Shivani in January, 1999, before her murder were untrue.
Madhu Sharma said any agency other than Delhi Police could conduct the lie detector test.
She said that in the investigations carried out in past over three years the only evidence against her husband was telephone calls. "The printouts have been fudged," she said.
To a question, she said that despite Ravi Kant Sharma having repeatedly told the Delhi Police teams to procure the records of telephone calls of Mahajan, it was not procured on the plea that the minister''s phone was not listed.
Asked if she had a copy of the transcript of the alleged conversation between Shivani and Mahajan she said "no", adding that Ravi Kant Sharma may be having them. "I should not be expected to disclose my evidence as it will be presented in court."
Madhu Sharma said she did not say on August 15 night that "Mahajan got Shivani murdered."
"Mahajan knows that my husband was being framed in the case," she said, adding that if on the basis of telephone calls her husband could be a suspect, then on the same criterion Mahajan should also be made a suspect "and undergo all that Ravi Kant Sharma has been undergoing."
Related stories
Sharma''s daughter approaches NHRC again
Hearing on R K Sharma''s bail plea postponed
