Lok Sabha Election in West Bengal 2024: Date, schedule, constituency details

NEW DELHI: The Chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced that Lok Sabha Elections will be held in 7 phases from 19th April with the counting of votes on 4th June.

West Bengal is set to feature on all seven phases.

  1. April 19: Coochbehar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri
  2. April 26: Darjeeling, Raigunj, Balurghat
  3. May 4th: Malda North, Malda South, Murshidabad, Jangipur
  4. May 13th: Baharampur, Krishnanagar, Ranaghat, Bardhaman Purba, Bardhaman – Durgapur, Asansol, Bolpur, Birbhum
  5. May 20th: Bongaon, Barrackpur, Howrah, Uluberia , Sreerampur, Hooghly, Arambag
  6. May 25th: Tamluk , Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, Bishnupur
  7. June 1: Dum Dum, Barasat, Basirhat, Jaynagar, Mathurapur, Diamond Harbour, Jadavpur, Kolkata Dakshin, Kolkata Uttar
First phase to be held on 19th April, second phase on 26th April, third phase on 7th May, fourth phase on 13th May, fifth phase on 20th May, sixth phase on 25th May and the seventh phase on 1st June, the CEC announced.

"2024 is the year of election across the world. We are committed to give India a truly festive democratic environment," the CEC said while announcing the dates for the elections.

"It's our promise to deliver national election in a manner that can add to India's shine on world stage," he added.

Talking about poll violence the CEC also said, "There is no place for bloodbath and violence in the elections...From wherever we will receive the information of violence, we will take action against them."

The CEC also annouced that there a total of 96.8 crore registered electors in India.

"We have 97 crore registered voters, 10.5 lakhs polling stations, 1.5 crores polling officials and security staff, 55 lakhs EVMs, 4 lakhs vehicles," he said.

During the 2019 general elections in West Bengal TMC emerged victorious with 22 seats, while the BJP made significant strides with 18 seats. Congress, suffered a setback winning only two seats.
