NEW DELHI: The Lalganj Lok Sabha Constituency in Uttar Pradesh, a political powerhouse renowned for its significant influence on Indian politics, is gearing up for a high-stakes battle in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Following the Election Commission's announcement on March 16, the elections are scheduled for May 25. As the 2024 elections approach, the electorate is more enthusiastic than ever to exercise their voting power. The key candidates for the 2024 elections in Lalganj are Indu Chaudhri from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Smt. Neelam Sonkar from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Daroga Saroj from the Samajwadi Party (SP).
In the 2020 Lalganj legislative assembly constituency elections, there were 332,710 registered voters, with 191,815 casting valid votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Sanjay Kumar Singh, won the seat with 70,750 votes. The Indian National Congress (INC) candidate, Rakesh Kumar, came in second with 44,451 votes, losing by 26,299 votes.
In the 2015 elections, Lalganj had 310,259 electors, and 176,082 of them voted validly. Raj Kumar Sah from the Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJP) won the seat with 80,842 votes. Vijay Kumar Shukla of the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] was the runner-up, securing 60,549 votes and losing by 20,293 votes.
During the 2010 elections, the constituency had 254,800 registered voters, with 142,674 valid votes cast. Annu Shukla from the JD(U) won the seat with 58,210 votes. Independent candidate Raj Kumar Sah stood second with 34,065 votes, resulting in a loss by 24,145 votes.
In the October 2005 elections, the total number of electors was not specified, but 93,520 valid votes were recorded. Vijay from the JD(U) won the seat with 36,852 votes. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate, Raj Kumar, came in second with 33,042 votes, losing by a margin of 3,810 votes.
