SRINAGAR: A 20-year-old footballer from Anantnag district joined terror organisation
Lashkar-e-Taiba a few days ago, highlighting the dangerous trend of young boys being radicalised in the strife-torn
Kashmir valley.
Majid Khan of Sadiqabad locality in Anantnag was allegedly lured into terrorism by LeT militant Shamsul Viqar of Gunjpore, who was arrested, along with Hizbul Mujahideen operative Aaqib Ahmad.
Majid, a second year student at Government Boys’ Degree College, was also a volunteer at a charity organisation, and his decision to join the terror outfit left his friends, family shocked.
Anantnag SSP Altaf Khan said, “Majid had gathered at least 300 volunteers for the charity organisation Mother Helpage, where he worked. He wanted to contribute towards uplifting society, but his outlook changed after he came in contact with Viqar, who comes from a militant family. He wanted all his associates to take up arms."
Majid’s social media posts revealed he took up arms after his friend Yawar Nisar was killed a fortnight after he joined Hizbul Mujahideen in August.
