NEW DELHI: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah announced on Thursday that government residential schools in Karnataka will be renamed as Maharishi Valmiki Residential Schools.
"All government residential schools in Karnataka will be renamed as Maharishi Valmiki Residential Schools. Raichur University will be renamed as Maharishi Valmiki University, " Siddaramaiah was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
The announcement came on the day of Valmiki Jayanti, celebrated to honour Maharishi Valmiki, the author of Ramayana.
Earlier in the day, Karnataka CM paid tributes to Valmiki in a series of posts on X.
"On the occasion of Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti, a garland was placed and floral tributes were offered to the statue of Valmiki in front of Vidhana Soudha today," Karnataka CM said in a post.
