NEW DELHI: Karnataka rural development and panchayat raj minister Priyanka Kharge on Monday acknowledged that governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has sought an explanation from Congress government regarding a petition submitted by the BJP. The petition sought the removal of Kharge from the cabinet due to the alleged allocation of land to a trust managed by his family, including his father and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Priyank Kharge said that governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has requested an explanation in a letter he wrote to chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh.
Kharge also accused Gehlot of acting with a "lightning speed" on complaints Congress leaders. He added, " On matters concerning BJP-JD(S) leaders' the speed is of tortoise."
"The (BJP's) complaint and he (Governor) writing back (to govt) seeking explanation, there is a lightning speed. It is not there in other things. On matters concerning BJP-JD(S) leaders' the speed is of tortoise. If it is Congress there will be a lighting speed," Kharge told reporters.
Kharge further alleged that despite documents against BJP-JD(S) leaders "rotting" on the governor's table, no action has been taken.
"The governor's office becomes active when it is to build the BJP,...," Priyank Kharge said.
"He (Governor) has put some queries and sent them (complaints or petitions against BJP-JD(S) leaders) back, and is saying they are not before him. When (complaint or petition) goes to the Governor's office, it does not stand disposed until and unless the Governor disposes of it....you (Governor) have asked for clarification, the file is still pending, after clarification, you have to make a decision," he added.
Earlier on August 27, the leader of opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, Chalavadi T Narayanaswamy petitioned the governor to dismiss Priyank Kharge from the Cabinet over the alleged land allotment.
