NEW DELHI: Counting in the Karakat Assembly constituency began early, with trends showing a tight fight as the day progressed. By Round 14 of the 31-round process, JD(U) candidate Mahabali Singh had pulled ahead, while Jyoti Singh, wife of Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh, found herself trailing. Voting in the constituency was conducted on November 11.
As per the latest figures, Mahabali Singh maintained a slender lead over CPI(ML) Liberation’s Arun Singh, while Jyoti Singh remained behind both. Karakat has seen multi-cornered fights in the past, though this time the primary focus settled on these three contenders.
Karakat assembly constituency– latest trends | Candidate | Party | Votes |
| Mahabali Singh | JD(U) | 36,229 |
| Arun Singh | CPI(ML) | 36,210 |
| Jyoti Singh | Independent | 9,308 |
Last updated: 2.15pmThe Karakat Assembly constituency has seen shifting political preferences over past elections. In 2020, Arun Singh of CPI(ML)(L) secured a decisive victory with 82,700 votes, marking a significant rise from earlier years. Previously, the seat was won in 2015 by Sanjay Kumar Singh of the RJD, who received 59,720 votes, while in 2010 Rajeshwar Raj of the JD(U) led with 49,751 votes.
The broader state picture showed the National Democratic Alliance advancing towards a sweeping mandate. With the alliance crossing the 200-seat mark in the early afternoon trends, it appeared poised to match its 2010 high point, driven by unexpectedly strong performances from both the BJP and JD(U). Data from the Election Commission indicated that the NDA was ahead in 202 seats, with the BJP leading in 91 and the JD(U) in 80.
For Nitish Kumar, who has led Bihar for nearly twenty years, this election has been viewed as a test of resilience and public trust. Once known for restoring order and development after years of instability, he has more recently faced questions over political shifts and voter fatigue. Yet the current mandate suggests that a large section of the electorate continues to place faith in his governance model.
The joint campaign by Prime Minister Modi and Nitish Kumar proved crucial in shaping voter sentiment, presenting a united and confident alliance centred on welfare delivery, infrastructure expansion, and stable administration.
