Kanwar yatra: Kanwariyas damage car yet again
GHAZIABAD: A Bolero was vandalized and overturned by a group of agitated Kanwariyas near Duhai Metro Station under the jurisdiction of Madhuban Bapudham police station area on Monday morning. The car driver was also beaten up by the Kanwariyas.
Police wrote on the car that the vehicle entered the Kanwar route and accidentally touched one of the Kanwariyas and triggered the incident.
The vehicle was attached to the electricity vigilance department, and the driver has been identified as Avnish Tyagi. Police also suspected that the man was drunk at the time of the incident.
The video of the harrowing incident spread on social media platforms in no time. In the footage, a mob of enraged individuals was seen wreaking havoc on the vehicle, wielding sticks and iron rods with malicious intent. The frenzied attackers shattered every window of the car, their relentless assault leaving no glass intact. In a shocking display of brute force, they managed to overturn the vehicle using nothing but their bare hands, showcasing the sheer intensity of their rage.
Undeterred by the extensive damage already inflicted, the assailants resumed their onslaught, raining down blows upon the upturned vehicle with sticks. The brutal attack persisted for an astonishing duration exceeding 15 minutes, as the mob unleashed their fury without restraint. Finally, having exhausted their anger, the Kanwariyas started their journey once again.
Abhishek Srivastava, ACP of Kavi Nagar, said that Tyagi was going to his office in the Ghaziabad City area from his residence in Muradnagar. He had entered the road cordoned off for the Kanwar Yatra and hit a 23-year-old Kanwariya, which triggered the incident.
Police forces have been deployed on the route to ensure there is no vehicle movement on the road dedicated to the Kanwariyas. "Police" was written on the Bolero vehicle, and due to this, none of the police deployed on the Kanwar route stopped the Bolero.
Piyush Singh, ADCP (Traffic), said that at Duhai, two head constables, Pardeep and Akhil, were deployed to stop any vehicle coming on the Kanwar route. “I have sent the report against them to the DCP police line, and further action will be taken by him only,” he said.
Sources in the police said that they would identify the people who vandalized the vehicle and take action against them. “We will identify the people involved in such heinous crimes with the help of CCTV footage and videos spread on social media platforms. Police are collecting the footage from NHAI, different social platforms, and other concerned authorities. Action will be taken against those who took law and order into their hands,” an officer said.
This is the second such incident within three days.
On Saturday, when a white Honda car driver entered the lane of Kanwariyas and hit one of them, agitated Kanwariyas took law and order into their hands and allegedly beat up the Honda City car driver, along with badly damaging his car with rods and sticks on the Delhi Meerut Road in Muradnagar of Ghaziabad.
