Kalmadi says OC CEO knew about TSR contract
NEW DELHI: Seeking bail, sacked CWG organizing committee boss Suresh Kalmadi on Thursday accused OC CEO Jarnail Singh of being "aware" of the timing, scoring result contract and insisted that he was informed at all stages of the decision. Former joint director-general (sports) A S V Prasad also sought relief from the court saying he had no role in the conspiracy.
Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Kalmadi, told special CBI judge Talwant Singh that the award of TSR contract was always in the knowledge of Jarnail Singh as the OC CEO but he was not named in the chargesheet.

"It seems CBI has conspicuously chosen to protect certain government officials," he said.
Kalmadi also contended that CBI had not obtained necessary sanction to prosecute him. He said he was a person appointed by the government and the cognizance of the chargesheet was taken in the absence of sanction.
He also told the court that the chargesheet filed against him was incomplete as the agency had "not stated complete facts, which is a cause of concern". He said CBI had submitted before the court that its investigation into the case was on but yet filed a chargesheet only to show the closure of the case.
CBI, however, opposed the contention saying no sanction was required in cases of conspiracy, cheating and forgery. The public prosecutor said CBI specifically mentioned in the chargesheet that its investigation into the case was on and a supplementary chargesheet would be filed, if needed. The court posted the matter for further hearing on May 30 as the arguments on bail plea of OC director general (procurement) Surjit Lal could not be taken up due to lack of time.
