NEW DELHI: Just a few days before the deadly
Uri terror attack
, terrorists had another evil plan in
Poonch sector
, which was nipped in the bud by an elderly couple.
On September 11, a terrorist got into the home of a Muslim couple in Jammu and
Kashmir's Poonch.
Haji Nazir Hussain and his wife, an elderly couple, found that a terrorist had got into their kitchen when they heard a gunshot. Hussain's wife immediately hid herself in another room and dialed the cops as well as the Army to apprise them of the situation. Hussain's neighbourhood comprises Army Brigade's headquarters and various other government houses.
The Army, took stock of the situation through telephonic conversation with Hussain's wife and reached the spot to begin the operation.
Meanwhile, Hussain's cook was shot dead by the terrorist. Even then, Hussain's wife continued to alert the police and the Army, giving them information of all the latest developments.
When the operation began, all the people in the neighbourhood came out to support the security personnel in any way they could. They arranged food and tea for the jawans, helped them in moving their arms and ammunition, etc.
The operation was over on September 13, taking 60 hours to complete.
With support pouring in from all sides, the soldiers were successful in killing all the four terrorists who had holed up in Hussain's house. They all belonged to
Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit. Thus, with the support from the neighbours and the presence of mind of the Hussains, another unfortunate attack was averted.
All the netizens of the area, upon the successful completion of the operation, raised slogans praising the Army. They also said that they would continue working for peace and stability in the region.
On September 15, Army Commander LJ Hudda rewarded the couple for their bravery and support to the soldiers. The couple dedicated the amount of money received to the Army.
