J&K announces night curfew along international border in Samba, withdraws it hours later
JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir administration late Tuesday withdrew an order announcing the imposition of night curfew in areas within 2km of the international border in Samba district for enhanced security — just hours after its release.
Around 10pm, the Department of Information and Public Relations issued a statement informing of the circular’s withdrawal. Officials, however, didn’t cite a reason for the rollback.
Earlier in the day, Samba district magistrate Ayushi Sudan released an official press note, stating that night curfew would remain in place from 10pm to 5am in areas up to 2km from the international border to support BSF operations and strengthen security for the next two months, unless withdrawn earlier.
Movement during curfew hours would be permitted only for valid reasons, and individuals must produce identification when asked by BSF or police personnel, the order stated. Violators would face legal action, it warned. The decision, Sudan explained, had been made in coordination with security agencies to enhance border monitoring and prevent unlawful activities by regulating civilian movement during night hours.
