JAMMU: An investigation by Jammu and Kashmir’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has found massive irregularities in recruitments at the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) department held in 2020. In a statement issued on Thursday, ACB said 109 candidates were found to have secured marks much lower than the cut-off.

The written exam for fireman and fireman drivers was conducted on September 20, 2020. The selection list, issued on October 3, 2020, cleared 690 candidates. ACB investigation found that candidates who had actually got 11, 17 and 24 marks were shown to have secured 90 marks each.

ACB said multiple instances clearly indicating irregularities have surfaced. For instance, five real brothers from Budgam district had cleared the test. Also, selection of relatives of F&ES department officials, and selected candidates belonging to the same locality, showed an obvious anomaly.

The offences are punishable under sections 13(1) (a) and 13 (2) (dishonesty and fraud by a public servant), under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, besides other IPC sections against members of the departmental recruitment board, including its chairman, technical committee members, and F&ES department officials.
