Celebrations break out in Jharkhand as Soren-led alliance is set to win assembly polls

The INDIA bloc was leading in the Jharkhand Assembly elections, according to Election Commission data as of 03:00 pm.

The bloc, comprising the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), is ahead in 58 out of the 81 assembly seats.

The Hemant Soren-led JMM was leading in 34 seats, while Congress is ahead in 17. The RJD is currently leading in 5 constituencies.

Call it a charismatic show by the power couple Hemant Soren and Kalpana Soren whom the BJP had dubbed as 'Bunty aur Babli,' Jharkhand's JMM is on track to secure a second consecutive term as part of the INDIA bloc.

Jharkhand voters showed support for the INDIA alliance, giving the coalition a lead in the state. Celebrations broke out among party workers in Ranchi as early results showed a strong performance for the alliance.

Hemant Soren, leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), is ahead in the Barhait constituency by more than 17,000 votes. Early trends point to a likely return to power for Soren, who celebrated with his family at home.

chief minister Hemant Soren's wife Kalpana is locked in a close fight in the Gandey constituency even as her party seems to be hurtling towards its best performance ever with Election Commission data showing the JMM leading in around 33 of the 81 assembly seats.

The JMM-led alliance has comfortably crossed the halfway mark of 41 in the assembly with at least 49 seats in the bag as per leads, indicating strong support despite Kalpana's individual struggle in her constituency.
