The Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court has ruled that having a photograph of a religious figure at home does not mean a person is professing that religion.

NAGPUR: Does having the photograph of a religious figure at his/her home mean a person is professing that particular religion? The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court replied in the negative to this question while hearing a plea by a 17-year-old girl, whose caste validity claim was denied because the vigilance officer found a photo of Jesus Christ at her home.

Allowing her plea challenging the Amravati District Caste Certificate Scrutiny Committee's order of September 22 quashing her caste claim, a division bench of justices Prithviraj Chauhan and Urmila Phalke Joshi discarded the vigilance officer's report.
