Jalpaiguri Constituency of West Bengal Lok Sabha Election 2024: Date of Voting, Result, Candidates List, Main Parties, Schedule

NEW DELHI: Voting for the Jalpaiguri constituency in the Lok Sabha elections will take place on Apri 19, in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Voting in West Bengal is set to take place in all seven phases from April 19 to June 1, aiming to elect 42 members of the Lok Sabha.

The election results will be announced on June 4, 2024. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, the TMC won 22 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while the BJP gained notable momentum with 18 seats. Congress won two seats.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the Jalpaiguri constituency, the candidates are Nirmal Chandra Roy from AITC, Jayanta Kumar Roy from BJP, and Debraj Barman from CPI(M).

In 2019, the Jalpaiguri parliamentary constituency boasted a total of 1,735,464 eligible voters. Out of these, 1,500,922 votes were deemed valid. Dr. Jayanta Kumar Roy, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party, emerged victorious, securing a total of 760,145 votes, thereby becoming the Member of Parliament for this constituency. Coming in second was Bijoy Chandra Barman of the All India Trinamool Congress, with a total of 576,141 votes. He trailed behind Dr. Roy by a margin of 184,004 votes.

In the 2014 elections, the Jalpaiguri parliamentary constituency boasted a total of 1,531,469 eligible voters. Of these, 1,302,117 votes were deemed valid. The All India Trinamool Congress candidate, Bijoy Chandra Barman, emerged victorious, securing a total of 494,773 votes and clinching the seat as MP. The runner-up, Mahendra Kumar Roy from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), garnered a total of 425,167 votes, falling short by 69,606 votes.

The main parties vying for seats in West Bengal include the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and a coalition of Left Front and Indian National Congress.

The model code of conduct came into effect from March 16 and will continue until the completion of the vote counting process on June 4.
