Jaishankar to Iran counterpart: Back efforts to stop war
NEW DELHI: Referring to the importance of efforts to restore stability and security to the West Asia region, external affairs minister S Jaishankar stressed India's support for ongoing regional and international efforts to stop the war in a conversation with his Iran counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi, according to an Iranian readout released Monday.
Apart from Araghchi, Jaishankar had on Sunday also spoken to his counterparts from Qatar and the UAE.
According to Iran, Araghchi spoke about the "heinous crimes" committed by American and Israeli aggressors against the Iranian people, including attacks on Iran's industrial and production infrastructure, as well as its "peaceful and safeguarded nuclear facilities, and the continued rhetoric by American officials openly threatening to attack Iran's energy infrastructure". He also reminded the international community and the UN of their responsibility to confront "law-breaking and the normalisation of war crimes".
Qatar too released a readout of the conversation that its foreign minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani had with Jaishankar in which they reviewed military escalation and its serious repercussions on regional & international security and stability.
The Qatar minister stressed the need to halt the "unjustified Iranian attacks" on Qatar and other countries, warning against irresponsible targeting of vital infrastructure, particularly that related to water, and energy facilities.
He also emphasised the need to strengthen coordination, intensify joint efforts, return to the negotiating table, and prioritise reason and wisdom to contain the crisis and ensure global energy security.

Too little too late, that's what MEA has done done. India should have involved even unilaterally either to prevent or to stop this unjustified war started by two persons who are friends of PM Modi. The serious consequences India and rest of world is forced to face now were pretty clear to be understood by PM Modi when he visited Israel. He did no see it fit to point out to his friend Netanyahu. He wants to be known as Vishav Guru but do not know how to act like one. No matter what India does now to cover up it initial mistakes immaturity of PM is glaring. Such a large country with excellent post independence world leadership history has been made subservient to tiny Israel always at war. If this war drags on citizens here mostly lower middle class will pay dearly but as usual Govt. will belittle the problems with its indifference.Read allPost comment
