IVF fraud case: Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, wife held in Rs 30-cr cheating; police seek transit remand
NEW DELHI: Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, were detained in Mumbai by Rajasthan Police on Sunday in connection with a Rs 30 crore cheating case.
Udaipur police are seeking transit remand from a Mumbai court to bring the couple to Udaipur for further investigation.
Commenting on the development, Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal told ANI: "The Rajasthan Police are now seeking transit remand from the court to take them to Udaipur. The police will likely bring Vikram Bhatt and his wife to Udaipur tomorrow."
The case was filed following allegations by Udaipur-based Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira Group of Companies, who accused the Bhatt couple and six others of defrauding him of Rs 30 crore. Two people had already been arrested in connection with the matter.
Providing details of the complaint, a police official said, "Murdia, owner of Indira IVF Hospital, wanted to make a biopic on his late wife. He has alleged that he was promised earnings of Rs 200 crore. But nothing materialised, after which Murdia approached Bhopalpura police station in Udaipur, where an FIR was registered for cheating and other offences."
