NEW DELHI: Flush from winning a three-year paternity battle at the Delhi HC, Rohit Shekhar, who claims to be the biological son of
N D Tiwari, said he had finally got justice.
Terming the verdict in his favour as pathbreaking, Shekhar, a practising lawyer, however, called for removal of words like “bastard” from the legal jurisprudence of the country, saying these are outdated, archaic and repressive.
“In an age where we have live-in relationships, law should have no space for such terms that have come from English law. Why should a child be declared a bastard and his mother an unchaste woman in today’s world?” Shekhar argued, saying he was determined to seek reform of the law in this regard. Driven by this spirit, Shekhar endorsed the stand taken by eminent lawyer and additional solicitor general Indira Jaisingh who recently objected to the Supreme Court using the term “concubine” in a judgment. “These are terms that need to go,” he opined.
