2019-20 data shows progress at the primary level, but high dropouts in higher classes

A report based on data for 2019-20 pertaining to 1.5 million private and government schools in India, collected by GoI’s Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE)) was released recently. Arun C Mehta, former Head of the Department of Educational Management Information System, NIEPA, New Delhi, who was in charge of UDISE from 2002 till 2017, distilled the report’s message to TOI:
