"The investigation is underway. The DRI is handling the case, and until they come out with definite information, I will not be able to comment. Let them complete their investigation. Since the DRI is a Central agency, I cannot say anything. However, I have asked the department to look into it internally, and they will definitely get some information," Parameshwara informed reporters.

The DRI apprehended Ranya Rao, who featured in films like 'Maanikya' and 'Pataki', on March 3, 2025, in Bengaluru. The state administration confirmed uniform application of legal procedures.

Congress MLA and legal advisor to the Karnataka chief minister, AS Ponnanna, released an official statement about the arrest, stressing impartial treatment.

"She has been accused of smuggling, and the law will take its course -- whether she is the daughter of the DGP, the chief minister, or the prime minister. If any official nexus is involved, the investigation will reveal it," Ponnanna said.

The arrest occurred following accusations of Ranya importing 14.8 kilograms of gold illegally from Dubai to India.

Officials detained Ranya, stepdaughter of Karnataka's director general of police (DGP) Dr K Ramachandra Rao, at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) after she arrived on an Emirates flight from Dubai.

DRI officials, acting on received intelligence, positioned their team at the airport prior to her arrival. They took her into custody immediately after landing.

On March 4, 2025, authorities presented Ranya before a special court for financial offences, which ordered judicial custody until March 18, 2025. She underwent medical examination at Bowring Hospital in Bengaluru before transfer to custody.

During interrogation, Ranya said her Dubai visit was business-related. However, DRI officials assert she was transporting substantial gold quantities intended for illegal import.

The DRI confirmed the seized gold weighed 14.8 kilograms. She remains under judicial custody as investigations proceed.
