NEW DELHI: Describing Indo-US economic relationship as ''somewhat disappointing'', the United States on Monday sought deeper trade and investment ties with India.
"While the diplomatic and political relationship between the two countries have remarkably grown in recent past, economic relationship has been somewhat disappointing", US Director of Policy Planning Staff Richard Haass said at a FICCI-organised meet here.
Seeking deeper cooperation on the economic front, Haass pointed out that the trade and investment relations of the two nations should have been on a much higher platform.
India, however, was sharing much better relations with US like other big markets including Japan, China, Europe and Russia, Haass said, pointing out the increasing need for the world to open up its markets.
Speaking on American foreign policies, Haass further said that US was ''carefully'' looking at grant of aids to the developing nations which should be not misused by these countries.
These aids should not become the sole means of finances for these developing economies but should be invested in the right direction which can push growth further in investment, he said.
