NEW DELHI: As India's Covid-19 cases continue to rise, Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 34,424 new cases, followed by the state of

West Bengal

which recorded a jump of 21,098 infections.

The tally of Omicron cases earlier today climbed to 4,461, the health ministry stated in its daily bulletin.



Maharashtra added a total of 34,424 cases to its swelling Covid-19 tally, a marginal increase in cases from Monday.

The state of West Bengal saw an increase of 21,098 new infections in the last 24 hours.




Among the big cities, Mumbai reported a drop in cases for the 4th consecutive day, adding 11,647 new infections and 2 fatalities in a day.

A single-day rise of 21,259 cases was recorded in Delhi. The positivity rate in the national capital is now 25.65%.



India had reported 1,68,063 fresh coronavirus cases on Tuesday morning, taking the country's total tally to 3,58,75,790.



Meanwhile, the corresponding increase in deaths has not been as alarming as it was during the second wave.

The country reported 277 more fatalities earlier today, pushing the total death toll to 4,84,213.
