NEW DELHI: The Indian consulate in Jaffna launched a new Hindi language course at the University of Vavuniya on Sunday amid the growing interest in learning Hindi.
The initiative, the consulate said, would strengthen communication and foster greater cultural exchange between India and Sri Lanka.
"Connecting Cultures, Celebrating Diversity! In response to the growing interest in learning Hindi, @CGJaffna in Jaffna has launched a new Hindi language course at the University of Vavuniya. The course was jointly inaugurated by Consul General Sai Murli IFS and Vice Chancellor Prof. Atputharajah, marking a significant step towards enhancing linguistic and cultural ties. This initiative strengthens communication and fosters greater cultural exchange between India and Sri Lanka, " posts the Consulate General of India in Jaffna posted on X.
The primary languages spoken are Sinhala and Tamil. While Hindi is taught in Sri Lankan universities and has been for nearly 25 years, some Sri Lankans are exposed to Hindi through Bollywood films.
