'Braving the deluge in Tripura': IAF continues rescue missions in flood ravaged Tripura

Rescue operation in Tripura

On August 25, 2024, Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters, including Mi-17 and Dhruv, carried out life-saving aid missions in the flood-ravaged areas of Jatanbari, Shankarpalli, and Gomati district. Despite the heavy rains, the IAF continued their critical operations to provide assistance to those affected.

IAF helicopters have been instrumental in reaching inaccessible areas and delivering much-needed aid to flood victims. Their ongoing efforts have brought hope and relief to many stranded residents.

Officials stated, "Despite the deluge, Indian Air Force helicopters, including Mi-17 and Dhruv, continued their life-saving aid missions on August 25, 2024, in the flood-ravaged areas of Jatanbari, Shankarpalli, and Gomati district."

Helicopters delivers 60 NDRF personnel

Helicopters delivered 60 NDRF personnel and over 45 tons of supplies to flood-affected areas, providing essential aid to those stranded.

The delivery brought much-needed succor to the affected regions.

Indian Air Force tweets, "Braving the deluge in Tripura, Mi-17 & Dhruv helicopters of the IAF continued life-sustaining aid missions on 25 Aug 24, across flood-ravaged areas of Jatanbari, Shankarpalli and Gomati district of Tripura.

With unwavering resolve and indomitable spirit, the heptrs delivered succor to those marooned by the floods, having delivered 60 NDRF personnel and more than 45 tons of supplies. The rapid response by IAF reaffirms its commitment towards Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief. Operations by IAF will continue in support."

CM Manik Saha to lead an all party meet

Chief Minister Manik Saha will lead an all-party meeting on Saturday to review the flood situation in the state. He assured citizens that the flood crisis is under control, with support from the central government. Measures to manage the disaster were also outlined.

He highlighted that the situation is being handled effectively and expressed gratitude for the central government's assistance.

24 people died so far

Twenty-four people have died, two were injured, and two others are reported missing in the state's floods, according to the latest data issued by the state administration. Preliminary reports indicate significant damage to physical infrastructure, agriculture, houses, fishery ponds, and livestock.

The floods have affected roads, power lines, and buildings extensively. Agricultural crops and houses have also suffered considerable damage. Fishery ponds and livestock have been impacted as well.

The state administration continues to monitor the situation and is likely to provide updates as more information becomes available. Rescue and relief efforts are likely underway to address the immediate needs of the affected population.

Around 17 lakhs people affected

Around 17 lakh people have been affected by rains and floods in Tripura so far, with 65,400 individuals taking shelter at 450 relief camps due to their houses being damaged.

Officials report that heavy downpours have led to significant displacement and damage. Thousands of residents have sought refuge in relief camps established across the state to accommodate those whose homes have been impacted by the severe weather.
