NEW DELHI: India and the US on Friday shared their concern over the activities of some Taliban and al-Qaeda elements in some parts of Afghanistan and their reported attempts at re-grouping.

both sides recognised that there was similarity of interest in regard to the developing situation in the war-ravaged country. "we would like to see an afghanistan in which there is no interference from outside," an external affairs ministry spokesperson told reporters. the us envoy called on external affairs minister jaswant singh, prime minister''s principal secretary brajesh mishra and foreign secretary chokila iyer. terming indo-us cooperation on afghanistan as excellent, especially after the september 11 terror attacks in the us, the spokesperson said that both sides had agreed to continue their cooperation and sharing of information and assessments in this regard. as part of continuing exchanges, us special coordinator on afghanistan richard haass visited india to discuss reconstruction efforts. official sources said that lambah might be visiting the us as part of ongoing consultations. kabul has sought india''s help in resurrecting the afghan army and police.
