Witness the historic moment when Sachin Tendulkar completed his 50th Test century, lifting the spirit of an entire country

  • The Batman@50 series continues to celebrate Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday by revisiting some of his special knocks
  • TOI’s senior sports editor Shashank Shekhar goes back in time to remember Sachin’s 50th Test century
  • The iconic knock was played at the picturesque Centurion ground in Pretoria, South Africa in December 2010
  • It was a Test which India lost but that fact became just a footnote as Sachin created history against a world class bowling attack

We are all fans of Sachin Tendulkar and it was a great honour for me to be there at Centurion when the maestro hit his 50th Test century, in the first Test against South Africa in December 2010.

It was the first of the three Tests in the series and we knew it was going to be tough for India because South Africa had never lost to India in a Test series at home before that. India captain MS Dhoni lost the toss on what was a very challenging day for the batsmen because it was overcast. It had rained earlier in the day and the condition was just right for the home pacers.
