77th Independence Day Live Updates: Multi-layer security were in place across Delhi on Tuesday, with more than 10,000 personnel manning the area in and around the historic Red Fort from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on its 77th Independence Day. In a switch from addressing the people of India as "my fellow citizens", the Prime Minister addressed the nation as his 'parivar jan [family members]' while speaking from the ramparts of the Red Fort. This year’s Independence Day will culminate the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, which was launched by the Prime Minister from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on March 12, 2021, and will, once again, usher the country into ‘Amrit Kaal’ with renewed vigour to realise his dream of making India a developed country by 2047. President Droupadi Murmu has approved 76 gallantry awards, including four Kirti Chakras posthumously and 11 Shaurya Chakras to personnel of the security forces, on the eve of the 77th Independence Day, officials said. Of the 11 Shaurya Chakras, five have been named posthumously. Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra are India's second-highest and third-highest peacetime gallantry awards after the Ashok Chakra. "President Droupadi Murmu has approved 76 Gallantry awards to Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel on the eve of Independence Day 2023. These include four Kirti Chakras (posthumous), 11 Shaurya Chakras, including five posthumous, two Bar to Sena Medals (gallantry), 52 Sena Medals (gallantry), three Nao Sena Medals (gallantry) and four Vayu Sena Medals (gallantry)," the defence ministry said in a statement.

Central Reserve Force (CRPF) got 33 Gallantry Medals on Independence Day that includes 20 Medals for gallantry in five operations conducted in Jammu and kashmir while 13 Medals were conferred on the Bravehearts who displayed gallant action in four operations in LWE infested areas. Two bravehearts were also awarded with the Police Medal for gallantry (Posthumous).

Covid-warriors thank PM Modi for invitation to attend Independence Day celebrations
Nidhi, a Senior Nursing Officer was excited to receive an invitation among the other fifty nurses along with their families, to attend Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort on August 15. They will be among 1800 special guests to listen to the 10th Independence Day speech of PM Modi since assuming office in 2014 from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort. Speaking to in Ghaziabad, Nidhi said, "We are very happy that PM Modi has specially invited us for the Independence Day celebrations. During the Covid, it was very difficult for us to work...We worked for 12 hours and the Covid period was very challenging for us...I am very thankful that the nursing fraternity has been given recognition & I wish to thank PM Modi for this..." Recalling a 14-year-old boy who had lost his father during the covid-pandemic was unable to come to terms to accept his loss.

Border Security Force (BSF) Director General, Nitin Agrawal, is on a two-day visit to the Punjab frontier starting Monday to review the security situation along the India-Pakistan International Border (IB) in the state. Agrawal, who took charge as the Director General of the BSF on June 14 this year, was briefed on the operations situation of the border guarding force by Punjab Frontier Inspector General Atul Fulzele before he started his visit. Notably, the Punjab frontier is a crucial point, as the BSF has been deployed at the 553 km-long India-Pakistan International Border to prevent infiltration, narcotics smuggling, and arms smuggling and ensure the cross-border apprehension of people.

Independence Day 2023: Arms supplier arrested in Delhi ahead of Independence Day
Ahead of Independence Day, the Delhi Police's Special Cell has arrested a 24-year-old arms supplier with five illegal pistols, officials said on Monday. Anil Sharma, a resident of Khargone in Madhya Pradesh, was supplying illegal weapons to gangsters in Delhi-NCR, west Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for the last two years, the police officials said. Police received a tip-off on August 9, following which a trap was laid near Ghevra Mod and Sharma was arrested with five pistols, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pratiksha Godara said.
